Grand Master’s Statement Freemasonry and its commitment to Humanity (in Portuguese)

Community Support in Disaster Situations — Soberana helps the flood victims in Brazil

The Sovereign Grand Lodge of Portugal, recognising the importance of solidarity as one of the fundamental pillars of Freemasonry, joined the Grand Lodge of Rio Grande do Sul to support the victims of the recent humanitarian disaster caused by flooding in that region of Brazil. In times of crisis, Masonic fraternity reinforces its values of mutual aid, compassion and commitment to the well-being of others.

The joint action between the two Grand Lodges was not merely a gesture of aid but also a demonstration that, beyond geographical borders, Freemasonry remains united by a spirit of solidarity that transcends any difference. The Sovereign Grand Lodge of Portugal sent financial, material and human resources to support the recovery and relief efforts for the families affected, helping to rebuild lives destroyed by the torrential rains.

This act of support reinforces the understanding that Freemasonry is not only an institution of study and reflection but an active force in society, devoted to promoting the common good and helping those most in need. The aid provided reflects the solidarity that should govern every Masonic action, and is a clear example of how, in practice, Masonic principles can make a difference in people’s lives.

In the most difficult moments, Freemasonry shows that, more than words, real and effective support is that which translates into concrete acts of help to others. The Sovereign Grand Lodge of Portugal thus reaffirms its commitment to working, together with its brothers and sisters, to build a world that is fairer, more fraternal and more caring
